Original Narrative Student Film Festival

The Original Narrative (ON) Student Film festival, organized by the Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication at the American University in Dubai (AUD), opened Saturday with 39 films selected from 300 entries – in three categories, fiction, documentary, and animation, in the presence of a large number of students, specialists, and members of the AUD Community.The opening ceremony included the screening of three films: The Parrot, directed by Darine Sallam and Amjad Al-Rasheed, Ayny directed by Ahmed Saleh, and Return of a Man, directed by Mahdi Fleifel.
The festival continued on Sunday with a workshop titled Smart Cinema under the supervision of Roozbeh Kafi, Assistant Professor of Digital Production and Storytelling at AUD. Students from international universities participating in the festival had the opportunity to learn from top industry professionals who demonstrated creative solutions for smartphone videography. Further to the workshop and using th latest smart accessories, participants were engaged in an exciting filmmaking challenge.
The festival will end on Monday at 8:00pm at the Alserkal Avenue to announce the winners in the following awards categories: Best Documentary, Best Fiction, Best Animation, Honorable Mention, and finally People’s Choice.
Original Narrative aims to inspire, recognize and reward the up-and-coming filmmakers of tomorrow, showcasing students’ short films and screenplays from the region and the world beyond, and providing a much-needed hub for students to network with peers and established industry professionals.
