Self-confidence is extremely important in nearly every aspect of our lives, yet so many struggle with it. Sadly, this can be a vicious cycle: people who lack confidence will find it difficult to become successful. The good news is that self-confidence really can be learned and built on! And, whether you’re working on your own confidence or building the confidence of people around you, it’s well-worth the effort!
• ‘Fake it ‘til you make it’
As the saying says, if you know that you look like a confident, capable person, eventually you will feel that way too. You should dress how you feel the best- not, what you think looks confident because then you’re just dissembling yourself!
• Work on your posture
How you carry yourself can have a big impact on how people notice you, so make sure you’re telling them that you’re confident. Keep your shoulders back, your spine straight, and your chin up. Walk with purpose and pride instead of dragging your feet, and sit up straight. Because when you look like a confident and strong person on the outside, you’ll be seen as one too!
You’d be surprised how a smile can make you feel so much better. Especially when you’re stuck in an uncomfortable social situation, even the smallest smile can make everyone feel so much better. Also, smiling reduces stress hormones in the brain.
• Make eye contact & hold your gaze
It’s a small change to remain eye contact, but it can work wonders on how people see you. Don’t be afraid to meet the gaze of someone else- it just shows you respect them and are interested in a conversation. Also, it shows that you’re a person worth communicating with!
• Have a good body language
If you want others to approach you, make sure you’re approachable. If you have your arms and legs crossed, you’re telling the world that you’re not interested in talking to anyone.
