Being You

“You’re unique just like everyone else.” This is a quote that is all about how having differences is precisely what unites you to everyone else. Wanting to fit in is something all of us strive for, whether it is at work, school or even at home.

Have you ever done something you don’t want to just because you didn’t want everyone else to think you’re weird? I know I have. When I was in school and we had assignments due, I would sometimes skip doing them if my friends would ask me to go out with them because I was worried that they wouldn’t talk to me otherwise.

When someone tries to put on a façade just to ‘fit in’, you may be able to pull it off for a week, a month, or even years, but eventually things will start to fall apart because you are being inauthentic. Being inauthentic and trying to pretend to be someone that you’re not is like building a house on pillars of sand. For true, lasting relationships, you need to let go of the fear that someone won’t like you because the fact is not everyone will. You can’t expect everyone to like you but the people who like you for you will make up for those who don’t and more.

Just like wearing a shoe smaller than your size will only hurt your feet, being fake will only cause pain to both you and others. People are attracted to confident people. You can only be confident if you are secure enough to express yourself and be the real you.

Own what you’ve got and offer all your unique qualities and make the world a little more vibrant.

Get out of your comfort zone and try new things to discover more about yourself.

Love, know and accept yourself for who you are.

Imagine if everyone was the same. Everyone would fit in. The world would be a mind-numbingly dreary place to live in.

Life’s too short to live a double life, so live yours to the fullest. Live it the way you want to.

Know that you can hang out with the ‘popular kids’ and still feel like an alien. The only way you will be content is if you find like-minded people like yourself who will make you feel like you’re the most loved person.

As long as you’re happy with yourself, what others think doesn’t matter. It’s okay if people dislike you for being the way you are as long as you know you’re doing the right thing and being yourself.
